My name is Ilgar Agayev. I am living in the wonderful historical City of Sheki in the Great Caucasus in the northwest of Azerbaijan. I am running a homestay and my passion is to show the beauty of my hometown to guests from around the world. An array of activities can be enjoyed in the city or in the surroundings, including horse riding, hiking and exploring the tasty Azerbaijanie cuisine. As I speak Azerbaijani, Russian, English and Arabic fluently I can easily communicate with guests from many different countries.
I always liked working with people. Before I started to work in tourism I have been working as a translator at the Sheki Silk Company for around three years, often acting as a guide and interpreter for official guests visting the factory and city. One of those mission was to work with a CNN news crew who were making a feature about Sheki in 2012. I appear at 1’45” and 4’00”. In the same year I was selected by the US Embasssy as coordinator for the Sheki visit of the US-Ambassador Richard Morningstar.
Also I worked at the Sheki Climbing Centre as communication and sales Manager.
Since 2009 already I am working in tourism. 2011 I opened my own homestay which is mentioned in lonely planet as well as on airbnb. Since 2013 I know Daniela Lieberwirth from KultEurasia. She stayed two times in our homestay.
In 2013 I received the certificate from CBT (Community Based Tourism) International as an “Outstanding Host”.
I would be glad to see you in Sheki and host you. Detailed information about our homestay you can find here.
