Saidov Sukhrob is a ceramic master located in Dushanbe/Tajikistan.
Read his artist story here in his own words: I work with ceramics, focusing on small decorative, traditional designs. I was born in 1963 in Dushanbe and my education is engineer-technologist. I have been graduated from the Ivanovo Chemical Technology University, after which I have been working in the factory of ceramics in the Tursunzade region of Tajikistan. In the early 1990s, I have decided to establish a small production at home, where initially manufactured figurines of women and men in national dresses.
Working with ceramics for more than 25 years, my products were exhibited at the Berlin fair 2014, Dubai Jubilee Games in 2016, and the International Cultural days of Tajikistan, in India in 2018. Two of my products have been awarded by UNESCO Seal of Excellence in 2007 and 2008, namely an intricately designed jug with matching cups and an equally exquisite ceramic aromatic lamp. I have learned the art of ceramics from our previous generations, secrets passed down through the family line, with elements of Sufi mysticism and spirituality. Ceramics are an important part of my life, Traditional Artistic Heritage. The origin of the ceramics I make come from a long line of ceramicists and Sufi Muslims in the Nakhshbandia area of Bukhara in Central Asia. My family has deep roots in mysticism and Sufi spiritualism of this area. The techniques were passed down to me via my grandfather, which I have fused with new designs and my own aesthetic. I have got technical skills to create my folk art work and it will be passed to my son that is 6 year old at the moment. Also, in future to preserve this folk art I will teach students who can continue it in future hopefully.
